SAFE Associate – Mandy Cooke

As a qualified adult, children, and district nurse for over 40 years, Mandy started working in developing safeguarding services within the NHS at a regional, national and strategic level in 2005.  As a senior leader, she has worked with Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as an inspector and performance managed NHS provider and commissioning services for their safeguarding function and delivery.  She has audited NHS services for their compliance against CQC and NHS Standards and developed strategic and local policies and action plans with NHS services to improve their outcomes that keep individuals safe.  She has reviewed over 150 adult and child deaths through the Child Death Review and Learning Disability Mortality Review processes as well as been a panel member on over 30 child and adult safeguarding boards and associated partnerships.  Mandy was also a member of the Department of Health and then NHS England’s National Safeguarding Committee before leaving her full-time NHS post in 2017.

As well as developing and delivering online training tools for private healthcare agencies, Mandy has also been a key note speaker at national conferences on what good safeguarding evidence looks like to meet compliance.  More recently, Mandy has worked with regional NHS organisations to completely review safeguarding services, training content and delivery mechanisms, supervision structures and team skill mix within their organisations in the wake of current and predicted NHS re-organisations.

Mandy is an experienced supervisor and mentor for individual support as well as leading group supervision sets for multiple individuals.  Her emphasis is and always has been, on what does “safe” mean to the individual and how can this be achieved in partnership?

Out of work, Mandy is a swimmer, gym bunny, lover of holidays and a volunteer at Wimbledon as well as her local town’s museum.
