SAFE Associate – Wendy Thorogood

Wendy has worked for the NHS since 1981 and is now an independent consultant nurse in safeguarding adults and children. Throughout Wendy’s career in the NHS, she has seen many changes, working on several different wards, both adults and children’s, in various hospitals until moving to the community.

Beginning her career as a Health Visitor, Wendy progressed to becoming a Named nurse, Designated role, Nurse Consultant leading to Associate Director /Head of Safeguarding adults and children/Nurse Consultant CCG Executive lead for Adults and Children’s safeguarding until retirement after 40 years of service in 2018. Since retirement, Wendy has continued to work nationally and internationally within safeguarding as a National advisor for the NHS and the AoCPP.

Wendy has worked with the LGA as a peer reviewer since 2012 and supported online reviews during lockdown, including driving the early help program through training and peer reviews, driving improvement for adults and children.
