SAFE Associate – Fiona Stevenson

Fiona is a Registered Nurse based in Scotland with a background in adult mental health.  Her focus of keeping children safe from harm began over 20 years ago when she took the lead in implementing guidance from Scottish Government across addiction services on the impact of parental substance misuse and went on to study this at both Dundee and Glasgow university.

She has extensive experience working across statutory and non-statutory agencies including Youth Justice, Social care, health addiction services and was the lead officer for a large local authority Child Protection committee where she coordinated the inspection if children’s services before joining the NSPCC where she was the Consultant for Child Protection training and consultancy in Scotland.

Fiona’s passion for ‘children to be at the centre’ extends to her role as a foster panel member and a short-break foster carer.  She is the Child Protection Trustee for her local Home-start and board member of an independent school Safeguarding Commission. Her knowledge and skills of legislation and guidance within Scotland will support organisations who work across the UK to understand their responsibilities and develop their policies, procedures and staff training within GIRFEC framework and the rights of the child (UNCRC).
