Course Description
This course, specifically designed for SAFE by Yana Spencer – an international expert in gender-based violence, is aimed at professionals with mandatory reporting duty (e.g., health and social care professionals and teachers) who need to have a solid understanding of these abusive practices which are becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK in order to help victims and potential victims.
Using thought-provoking case studies and videos, the workshop will enable participants to feel confident when confronted by these so-called ‘traditional practice’ and ‘honour-based’ abuses – which are often considered to be culturally highly sensitive. It will provide insights into the causes of such abuse and their impact on the victim. Guidance will also be given on how to identify such abuse and the correct way to report it to ensure proper safeguarding procedures are followed.
